Professional Development FAQs

Q) How many Continuing Development Units (CDUs) can I earn as a Volunteer with the Boston IIBA Chapter?

A) You can earn up to 30 CDUs for volunteer service, counting towards the 60 that you need to earn every three years following your date of certification or recertification as a CBAP or CCBA.  You earn 1 CDU for every hour of service as a volunteer committee member or board officer.  Board officers also earn a bonus of 10 CDUs per year, for a minimum of six months of service in that year.  Both commitee member and board officers are expected to attend a minimum of 50% of the scheduled commitee or board meetings during the submitted time period to earn the CDU credit, but of course we hope you attend all of them!  For more information, see the CBAP Recertification Handbook or CCBA Recertification Handbook.

Q) How do I claim PDUs for PMP recertification?

A) Here’s how to claim PDUs after attending GBC chapter meetings.

  • GBC will send an email to all meeting attendees within seven (7) business days.  It is your responsibility to retain this email as proof of your attendance in the event of audit.
  • Login to the PMI website to log your PDU(s).  GBC is not an REP so these PDUs should be recorded as Category B – Continuing Education credits.  For meetings related to project management, you can claim 1 PDU for each 1 hour of education down to increments of .25 PDUs (15 minutes).  As such, meetings with a 1-hour presentation qualify for 1 PDU.  You can find additional details and the most current information  on the PMI website.  See pages 39-40 of the PMP Credential Handbook.

Q) How do I claim CDUs for CBAP/CCBA recertification?

A) Here’s how to claim CDUs after attending GBC chapter meetings.

  • GBC will send an email to all meeting attendees within seven (7) business days.  It is your responsibility to retain this email as proof of your attendance in the event of audit.
  • Complete the CDU Reporting form.  Chapter Meetings and Events qualify under Category 2C (IIBA Chapter Meetings and Events).  CDUs will be calculated as follows: one CDU per hour of contact for the presentation portion of the meeting.  There is a minimum of one hour for earning any CDU credit with additional CDUs granted at the rate of ¼ CDU for each 15 minutes.   Refer to the CBAP® Recertification Handbook for additional details and the most current information.
  • CCBA and CBAP Candidates:  Please note attendance at chapter meetings does not qualify toward the requirement for 21 Professional Development (PD) hours needed to submit your application.   On the other hand, the GBC CBAP/CCBA official study group offered by the Chapter does qualify towards this requirement.
