The business analysis, data warehousing, and business intelligence (BI) communities have evolved separately, each with its own practices and certifications. To develop requirements, business analysts typically elicit and analyze business behavior by using techniques such as use cases, scenarios, and user acceptance tests derived from scenarios. That is, they use behavior modeling to explore system usage—techniques that aren’t part of typical business warehousing and BI toolkits. But when reframed as business usage versus system usage—usage beyond the scope of the BI effect—these behavior modeling techniques can provide powerful insight into BI needs. Sue Burk will share her experiences in exploring business usage with use cases, scenarios, and user acceptance tests in support of data warehousing and BI analysis. Join us to learn how models that examine behavior can help you better specify requirements for your data warehouse and BI projects.
